about

One of my last "archival" recordings, this is a b-side to Dark Corners of the Night/The Dunce Cap. I always loved the song, but 1) It didn't fit sonic-wise on either of those and 2) I never had a mix I like until recently.

A kind of musical "what if," where Joshua McCormack and His Rather Famous band never really ended, we got a bit "heavier," and I didn't move to Tucson.

lyrics

slam my hand down on the table
all the fortune cookies crumble
adages and lucky numbers flit through the air

who does the seer mention?
who hides evil intentions
behind a sugar-coated rotting smile?
the forceps and the chair
pulling teeth from the mouth of madness

it was only yesterday when you cried
that the stars never seem to align

you were cut like a cadaver
you drank yourself alive
now you're screaming like a baby
who never learned how to survive
losing teeth from the mouth of madness

it was only yesterday when you cried
that the stars never seem to align
I'm rearranging constellations tonight
write my legends in those heavenly heights

gemini
can you survive another round?
gemini
can you revive the great love sound?
the day came when you didn't know the crowd
didn't you, didn't you?
and the songbird dropped you through the clouds
didn't she, didn't she?
oh man in the super-moon
flash that gnarled smile

it was only yesterday when you cried
that the stars never seem to align
I'm rearranging constellations tonight
write my legends in those heavenly heights

about

Joshua McCormack Tucson, Arizona

From the odd acoustic pop of Joshua Mccormack Presents Holiday Girl , to the electronic-tinged rock of The Phantom King , to the collection of sonic oddities on The Dunce Cap, he’s been restless for years.

His recent album Lights Out 4 Baby Grand, shows a more personal side, while The World, Just For You is a collection of cover songs he recorded to survive the dystopian ambivalence of 2020.
